The Green Mile - Stephen King
This book is absolutely amazing.

At some point I have watched the movie version, but enough time has passed that I don't really remember much of it. But this book blew me away.

The amount of thought placed behind each word is phenomenal, especially considering the multiple flashbacks and shifting time periods.

Since the story was originally written in six separate parts, the beginning of each part is a bit of a recap of the previous part, sometimes word for word. This seems a bit repetitive when reading the whole story in one book, but does not take away from its greatness.

The characters are well done and you can't help but feel strongly for all of them, love for the good ones and contempt for the bad ones.

The story itself is just as phenomenal as the writing and the characters. It's a book you won't want to put down and despite its large page count, it can be gotten through relatively quickly.

This is the first book by King that I have read but most certainly will not be the last.
